In what some people call “the most viral social news story in the world,” Facebook is launching a new group called Social Gospel to teach students “social gospel.”
In a video posted Monday on Facebook, the group explains its mission, explaining that the social gospel idea is “one of the most misunderstood aspects of Christianity.”
“Social gospel teaches that we can achieve our goals, overcome our challenges, and achieve happiness in the process of love,” the group writes.
“It is a belief that we should love others unconditionally and take on the burden of God’s love in our lives and in our communities.”
According to the group’s description, the social Gospel movement “is the way we get people to love each other unconditionally.
It is about living life to the fullest and showing up to work, be positive, and do your best.”
Facebook’s new social gospel group is being launched in the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.
On Monday, the shooter, Omar Mateen, opened fire on a gay nightclub in Orlando before turning the gun on himself, killing 49 people and wounding at least 50 more.
Facebook has not commented on whether it will continue to operate the Facebook Group for Social Gospel, or the new Facebook group.
The group’s website has also been updated to include more information about the new group.
