ZOHO SINGAPORE, Singapore — The government is considering giving preschoolers a social media education about democracy and civil society.
The National Youth League of Singapore (NHLS) and the Government Communications and Information Office (GCOI) are drafting a plan to teach about democracy, civil society, and the role of media in society.
The NHLS said on Tuesday that it is currently working on a plan for preschoolers to learn about the role and values of media, democracy, and civil rights.
This includes a program on the internet, on how to use social media, and how to be respectful of the rights of others.
NHLS said it will also make a series of presentations about civil rights to preschoolers.
GCOIs office said it has received input from the NHLS and the NHL’s social media coordinator, Mee Yee Chee, about the plan.
It said that the NHls plan would be ready for consultation with the NHLC on the proposal by the end of March.
If approved, it would be the first government plan to give preschoolers social media and the internet education.
